We are committed to having a positive impact on our people, clients, the communities in which we work and the environment. Our strategy to achieving this goal is divided into three areas: environmental, social and governance.
Our ESG policy is a firm-wide commitment focusing on giving our time, knowledge and expertise for the benefit of others to maximise the impact of our ESG initiatives.
We have made a commitment to reduce our emissions
We have a number of measures in place to reduce our energy and carbon impacts to deliver efficiency, value and health for our business, our people and the wider community.
Our modern offices have energy saving devices including lighting. We also operate a paper lite office with recycling provided for a range of materials.
We support our people who want to improve their own environmental footprint through schemes such as Ride to Work; season ticket loans for public transport; bike racks and shower facilities; electric car charging on site and hybrid and remote working to reduce commuting.
We are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the community, championing charitable causes, supporting our people, and maintaining a resilient and ethical supply chain.
Through our actions, we strive to empower local communities, nurture meaningful partnerships with charities, and create a supportive and inclusive workplace for our team. We prioritize sustainability, ethical practices, and collaboration in all areas of our work, ensuring our operations align with our values and contribute to a better future for everyone.
Our dedication to social responsibility is not just a policy—it’s a core part of who we are and how we operate.
All our people are encouraged to engage with our local communities. Many people serve on the boards of various organisations, as governors of local schools and trustees of charities, or attend and advise at the Citizen Advice Bureau. Work placements are offered to undergraduate and A-Level students, giving them the opportunity to gain work experience within all disciplines of the legal sector.
We have been recognised by the Kent Dementia Action Alliance as officially ‘Working to Become Dementia Friendly’ with nearly 25% of our staff being Dementia Friends and frequently support local organisations and community based events near our office.
We partner with an elected charity over a two-year period, with an active programme of events. All our people have the opportunity to get involved with raising funds, volunteering and helping to raise the profile of the charity while learning about the cause.
We offer an Employer-Supported Volunteering scheme that enables all our people to volunteer for up to fourteen hours a year as paid time off work.
The Children’s Respite Trust is our current charity partner. The Children’s Respite Trust truly believes that no family should have to care for a disabled child alone. It provides respite at its centre in Uckfield and through its Community Support Workers across Sussex and Kent. For some families, the care provided means parents can spend time with siblings of the disabled children. For others, it offers a chance to rest, but for all families, it’s an opportunity to do things that many take for granted, while the children themselves have the best time possible.
We operate a Charity Trust Fund that enables us to make ad hoc donations to causes which are of particular importance to our people and our clients.
At Thomson Snell & Passmore you will find a challenging, dynamic, inclusive and diverse work environment, supporting professional development for all and a good work-life balance.

Our active Charities, Sports and Social committee arrange an extensive programme of events and initiatives to appeal to all our people. This includes an annual Christmas Party, Summer party and Christmas Carol Concert to which families are invited; meals out; breakfast in the office, Jazz on the Pantiles and clubs such as book club, lunchtime walking, running club and other sporting and hobby activities, Diversity & Inclusion discussion group.
All new contracts for the firm are reviewed by our commercial team to ensure that they are robust and that all the correct policies where necessary are in place. If necessary, we send some suppliers due diligence questionnaire if this is not covered by the contract to ensure relevant clauses and confidentiality.
New suppliers are normally because of a recommendation to us, but we may also ask for references from existing clients, as an extra check and as appropriate conduct a tender process. All contracts are regularly reviewed and if necessary we are happy to terminate contracts if we are no longer happy with the supplier or the way they operate.
We promote strong corporate governance practices through exemplary Management Board stewardship, management accountability and proactive risk management.
High ethical standards and leadership help promote a culture of integrity, with clear policies and procedures in place relating to risk management, anti-corruption and anti-bribery.
Our suppliers are selected solely on the basis of their suitability, and we take seriously any complaint of discrimination by or on behalf of a third party and act promptly to investigate.
We are Lexcel accredited and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
